Valley Technology has been shortlisted in two award categories at the Scottish Software Awards 2008 - Best Wireless / Mobile Solution; and the top accolade Scottish Software Company 2008.

Best Wireless / Mobile Solution
Valley Technology's innovative pay-as-you-go proof-of-delivery service The PODFather has been shortlisted in the Best Wireless / Mobile Solution category.

The service is provided by a Web 2.0 website where transport offices can upload job details. The jobs are transmitted down to delivery drivers' commodity mobile phones or PDAs over the internet. The drivers then use a local database application on the device to read and update the job details capturing pictures of the job and a customers signature. The details are then transmitted from the handheld back up to the website.

Managing Director Alastair Broom comments: "The benefit of having a local application on the PDA is that the driver can go out of mobile coverage and still carry on with their job filling out fields, storing pictures and capturing signatures. When the PDA comes back into data coverage, the application automatically uploads the information in XML format to the PODFather website. From the driver's point of view, its seamless."

Scottish Software Company 2008
Valley Technology has been shortlisted for the top accolade at the Scottish Software Awards 2008.

Only companies which can demonstrate strong leadership and outstanding commercial success are considered to meet the criteria for the award.

Starting in 2000 with three employees, 2008 sees a team of 18 employees carrying out bespoke development projects with medium and large businesses, such as Farmfoods Ltd (uk-wide frozen foods retailer, 400M turnover), Prostrakan Group plc (pharmaceuticals, 50M turnover) and International Jetclub Ltd (business aviation).
Capitalising on its strong technical team, in the last 12 months the company has launched The PODFather Web 2.0 service, and recruited a sales team specifically to drive the growth of this Software-as-a-service product.

"Recently gaining ISO-9001 Quality Management Systems accreditation confirms the strength of the team and processes", comments MD Alastair Broom. "Focusing on selling The PODFather has worked as a "foot in the door" to many new customers, where we've been able to upsell integration and bespoke development work. With international enquiries now being made for The PODFather, we're anticipating a period of exceptional growth".

The award ceremony is on 28th November at Glasgow's Radisson Hotel.
