ProStrakan opts for bespoke reporting system from Valley Technology |

Managing a broad array of ongoing drug development trial programs for use in prescription medicines is being made easier for one of Britain’s leading edge pharmaceutical companies thanks to Valley Technology’s pioneering ‘built for purpose’ software which migrates away from a time-constraining spreadsheet based reporting system.
Valley Technology has developed this in-house software system for Borders-based ProStrakan Group plc, to track the global regulatory status of its drugs in development and on the market. Tracking this sort of information is a demanding task as it involves a lot of diverse information relating to clinical trials, new drug applications, post approval commitments and life-cycle management to name a few. The status of each drug varies throughout its development and life-cycle, and also across regions as the data requirements and authorisation procedures of the regulatory authorities differ.
Ian Duguid, Head of Regulatory Affairs at ProStrakan, sees the administrative burden of controlling and keeping track of the approvals process easing now that Valley Technology’s modular system is now being adopted across the company.
“Our senior management needs ready access to the information, so we can track and determine the regulatory status of our products on the market and in development across the globe. Using spreadsheets was limiting in what we were trying to achieve, but Valley has developed a bespoke database which allows us access to relevant information on product specification, metrics and approval times. It is far better for us to have this bespoke solution with a much greater degree of flexibility and functionality, so obtaining the status information we require at any given time, is instantly available.”
Valley Technology is still building ProStrakan’s reporting system. Part One of the three-stage system – a library of information pertaining to ProStrakan products already on the market - has been tested and implemented. Developmental work is progressing on the two further stages to allow tracking of new drug applications and products in the developmental stage undergoing clinical trials.
Alastair Broom, managing director of Valley Technology commented;
“ProStrakan is one of the most prominent pharmaceutical companies in the UK and, as such, they need a robust reporting system which can provide a status report on any product at any time.
We worked closely with ProStrakan’s IT department to ensure there was a seamless transition from its legacy system to the new bespoke program. The first stage is now running well and plans are now underway for the company to adopt stages two and three shortly. Reporting on all aspects of its drug development programs will soon be in a web-based, tablature format with fields specially created to pinpoint ongoing status and development processes for management reporting. It’s a far cry from its spreadsheet-based system and can have new modules added to it as the company’s development programme dictates.”
